A Birthday Vignette Box

 Hello Friends!

It was my husband's birthday and I wanted to make him something special. Combine that with my love of making vignette boxes-and a special gift was made :)

This is the second biggest vignette box in the set of 4 when you buy them. I also added the wood frame that are sold separately. So here is the box.

Then here is the box with tiny lights! I love tiny lights. Tim suggested a Fiskars hand drill to help put the lights through-and my husband bought me one.  It is very handy and not intimidating.  I don't usually use drills and stuff so for me this hand held drill is really nice.

Then here is the vignette box with tiny lights in a dark room. LOL. Those lights are just magical!

Starting here I love this because this is a little fish tank made with:

Red Foil paper and the smaller fish from Under the Sea die

Dimensional dome and the circle to cut it from Tiny Snowglobes dies

Baubles painted with Aqua and Sail Boat Blue Ranger Alcohol Inks

Googly Eye

The baubles look like real bubbles with the tiny lights on. And there is no filter! :) 

This Tim Holtz decorative dome has little bead dice from my stash. I glued them together using collage medium. Some how some magic happened here too and the dice look like they defy gravity. lol

These chess pieces are plastic and I used pitch black and gold alloy to dress it up a bit. This is the king piece :)

This is a Tim Holtz base that I bought for this project. I thought it would be fun to take the Vignette Box a step further. The package comes with two different sizes-this is the larger size. I used gold gilded alloy in the recesses and black on the embossed. 

Here is one side of the vignette box. First I painted the whole box and frame with black gesso. Then I painted collage medium over it. Then I tried to use some grit and crackle paste but I'm not good at that yet. I don't know how to get it mixed because I tried mixing it with paint. So I painted over it with brown and black paint. Then I got out my Finnabair Rust paint effects and created the rust. I left the crackle. The I went over the black it Finnabair vintage gold wax. That's what makes the frame dots on the front gold also.

Here is the other side of the box.

Top of the box. That little record player is from Hobby Lobby a long while ago. I love minatures but I don't need another hobby. So when they are on sale and I think I can use them-I will buy them. But I really have to think if I can use it and not buy it just because it's cute LOL. (The struggle is real.)

The sweet lightbulb is from Prima many years ago.

Metal gears in my stash (could be Tim's).

The pen nub and pen chipboard are both Tim's. The background paper is 7 Gypsies. I used a bit of walnut ink distress oxide here and there. Also-I used some washi tape with gears to hide the hot glue on the tiny lights wires. 

The laugh was a token I bought at a thrift store with my husband. There was a small handful of them. I finally used one! :)  Yay! And an awesome paper doll.

The Rainbow Challenge-July Edition

Hello Everybody!

Happy July! This month at the Rainbow Challenge we are all about Charmingly Cherry! 

This board has some fantastic ideas!  I chose to use some washi tape. Some how I have a lot of red-I think I bought a tube from Michaels a while back. The paper for the background and sentiment are real red from stampin up. And the sentiment is a die cut from Simon Says Stamp.  Then I added some gems for fun. :)

Little Easter Vignette

 Hello Everybody!

Easter is a week away! And I'm not sure I am quite ready. I had big plans-but sometimes I need to take small steps. LOL. So here is a small step in my Easter craftiness.

This is the smallest of the Tim Holtz vignettes. The little bunnies are from Hobby Lobby. So I used some distress ink on a piece of pattern paper for the background.  The butterfly and heart are  little metal charms from mod podge. I used speckled egg and kitch flamingo embossing glazes on them. The cool gems are studio katia. And you see see the fake moss grass stuff.

Let me tell you about the flowers! I won them from my friend Em. They are made out of white cardstock.  I used chrome yellow ranger archival ink for yellow and broken china and wilted violet distress oxide inks. And then I added nuvo dots.

I painted the outside of the box with white acrylic paint. Once dry, I adhered this cute Doodlebug washi tape to the outside of it. (This super cute tape came from Simon Says Stamps) :)

Heart Swing Valentine Card

 Hello Friends!

It's Day 3 of my Valentine 14 Days of Craftiness and today I am showing you a Valentine's Day card. However, this is a different type of Valentine Card for me.  

I had this pack of Heart Swing Cards that you can buy from Paper Wishes. (I sort of inherited them but that's another story.) And I was watching YouTube and somehow ran across the video explaining how to make them. So it's not hard. On the back of the label is a pattern for the different shapes on the card. The best thing to do is make a couple of copies and then you can trace and cut out. 

I made a couple of copies and got out some Paper Crate paper that I hoard and love LOL.  After I glued on the background pieces I just added things to the card that weren't too bulky because I know I was going to mail it.  Here is the card when you first get it. That is a Simon Says Stamp (swoon!) and a sticker and two sequin hearts on the middle heart.

Here is sort of an action picture of opening the card.

Ta Da! The other side! The little hearts in the middle I have had forever! I am so happy they got used on the spine of this card. Now- I made the mistake of not going all the way to the right edge. No worries! I cut an extra strip and used a fiskars punch and some washi tape. Shhh don't tell anyone-maybe the recipient will think I meant too ;)

This cute elephant is a print a cut from the Silhouette Design Store. They have so many cute images and you can make them stickers but I chose to print and cut on white card stock so I could move the elephant and those pink hearts around. Oh and the center heart has a Tim Holtz sentiment and some flowers which I have also had for a long time. Stash Bashing! ;)

Here is the card standing. I think this was pretty cool and different. And out of my comfort zone. I just wanted to have fun make Valentine's and that happened here. Over the next few days there will be a few more of these style cards so be sure to visit again! :)

St. Patrick's Day Layout

Yay!  This layout was picked in the Top 3 at Stick It Down! :)

Hello Everybody!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day-although a little late in the evening.  Here is a St. Patrick's Day layout that was inspired by the sketch at Stick It Down.

I knew I wanted shamrocks-and I found 3 glitter foam shamrocks that were so old the adhesive didn't work on the back LOL.  No worries!  So I cut out more shamrocks from my silhouette.  The true green ones are distress ink mowed lawn that I inked on there.  And I painted the lighter green ones with Sparks Fairy Wings acrylic paint by Finnabair.  Side note-I love sparks paint.  I just sort of discovered them and they are so glittery and shiny! :)

When I was going through the St. Patty's day cut files I saw the light bulb and had to use it.  I cut out glitter green paper for it.  The title with the arrows are also cut from the silhouette on white cardstock inked with distress oxide lucky clover.  

Then I added some gems and used some washi tape to edge the middle paper.  Our pictures are from instagram.  So Fun! :)

That was Awesome Layout

Hello Everybody!

It feels like forever since I have made a 2 page scrapbook layout.  Probably because it has been forever.  LOL!  So I am very happy I was able to make this layout using the sketch from Stick It Down and the theme from Use Your Stuff.

This is from a trip I took last year with my sister to San Juan.  It was a business trip but they had fun built in.  We were able to take a tour of the Bacardi factory.  It was awesome! :)  On the bottom right is my bracelet "ticket."  We learned how to make three drinks-mojito being my favorite.  

Here is a closeup of the cluster on the top.  I used some washi tape and chipboard pieces my friend Amber gave me.  (thanks! the paper too!)  The pom pom flowers are Queen and Company, and I just love them!

For the background I used Wendy Vecchi's translucent embossing paste and a diamond stencil.  I wanted to add something so there wouldn't be quite so much white (or in this case pink) space.  I love the clear embossing paste because it seems to add just a little something without it being too much.  :)

Life is Good Layout

Hello Everybody!

With just a couple of days left in January, I decided I had to participate in Stick It Down's single page challenge.  All of the sketches are awesome-but I was really inspired by the single page sketch and all of the DT's examples.

So here is my layout:

Here is what I used: black and white cardstock, Heidi Swapp word stickers, decorative from Paper Studio (hobby lobby), and star stickers with gold foil.  

Let me tell you about those stars.  A million years ago they came out with a foil pen.  And foils that you just put over where ever the pen had written.  For me the pen didn't work great.  My sweet parents bought me a kit of some sort.  I remember I had to have it!  So it came with metallic frames and the pen and foils.  But it also came with stickers-which I didn't realize until I was looking through my metallic stuff.  And thankfully right next to the stickers was the foils.  Press onto the stickers and then you're done.  That's it! :)

Grandma's Garden Layout

Hello Friends!

I created the layout using the sketch at Let's Get Sketchy.

I mixed light modeling paste and some Art Anthology gold paint (it had glitter in it too) and used a Crafter's Workshop stencild for the little squares around the picture.  I was so excited to finally used paste-it's been awhile!

Instead of a 2nd pictures I used the bingo card from Simple Stories.  It was part of a 12 by 12 paper so I just cut it out.  For Christmas my husband got me a whole pack of different kinds of washi tape.  That is the orange with flower strip going horitzontally-washi tape.  The letters are a thickers and Basic Grey.

The flowers-let me tell you about those.  I don't know if they are Prima or Target-but I bought them at Target and they came in 3 little glass jars with wooden tops.  This is years ago.  Does anyone still have theirs?  LOL.  For the centers I used white Enamel Accents from Ranger.  I used some paper twine and a tag from K & Company-also a bajillion years old.

Mickey Layout

Hello Everybody!

I am so excited that I completed a scrapbook page!  I even used some new washi tape I bought at the Scrapbook Expo-woot! woot!

I was totally inspired by the layout at Let's Get Sketchy.  Here is my take on the sketch:

I think I was more excited to meet Halloween Mickey than my son...but that's ok!  :)  This was at Mickey's not so Scary Halloween party.  Super fun!

This is a button that I glued here.  I was so happy when I found it in the Disney stuff.  Yay!  For organization! ;)

And here is the sketch.  There is plenty of time to play-so stop on by! :)

The background paper is from Fancy Pants.  The letters in the title are from Making Memories.  G-studio made the gems.  And the pumpkin is colorbok and the tag is from Oriental trading.  Plus I used some scrap paper (woo hoo!) ;)

Lucky Dog!

 Hello Everybody!

I am here to tell you about the fun new challenge at House of Cards today!  It is a cue word-and the cue is silhouette!

I love this challenge-the possibilities are endless!  I cut this dog and his green hat out on my Silhouette machine.  I love this little dog!

To create the background I took some light tan pattern paper and used this stencil from Recollections from Michaels and this ink pad and applicator.  The I used some washi tape and a ribbon.  The sentiment is stamped onto a piece of vellum.

Temple of Portunus

Hello Everybody!

Are ya'll enjoying this beautiful fall weather?  I just want to sit outside without a worry in the world but I also want to scrapbook...Dilemna! ;)

So as I write this I'm inside-not outside but that's ok!  I'm glad to post this scrapbook page for the Let's Get Sketchy Challenge Week 1.

My husband and I were fortunate enough to visit Italy back in April.  And our hotel was across the street from this ancient building.  How cool is that?!?!  So this is about the Temple of Portunus which was a fruit and vegetable market in Ancient Rome.  It is dedicated to Portunus the god or port.  And I used Wikipedia for this information.  :)

Favorite Things Friday-Washi Tape

Hello Everybody!

At Scrap It Girl we are celebrating our Favorite Things Friday.  Today's love is for Washi Tape.  Such a fun a decorative thing to add to those scrap pages and cards!

Here is my little collection.  The white tape dispenser there is bar code packing tape from Prima.  I have some Making Memories "packing tape" stuff too.  It's the predecessor to washi tape.  It's not as forgiving as washi because it is like normal tape and once you have placed it-it's hard to adjust.  I guess that's why it didn't "stick" around.  Ha ha ha!  :)  A history lesson and comedy-who could ask for more?  ;)

Here are my favorites.  Out of all of those colors I chose 4 black and white ones and didn't realize it until I snapped the picture.  But the reason these are my faves is because they will go with any color palette for the most part.  The measure tape and pointy finger are Tim Holt's and the other 2 are Recollections.  I think half of these are Recollections.  (Which means I impulse buy at Michael's)  LOL

Hello Everybody!

It's my turn at Unique Laser Designs to show off some of their great products.  So I made a scrapbook page.  :)

Our church does a yearly Trunk or Treat.  Folks decorate their trunks and hand out candy.  My husband transformed our pick up truck into a pirate ship.  :)

Here is the piece that I fell in love with!  For this pirate skull and bones I painted him with Distress Crackle Paint Picket Fence.  Look at all of that crackly goodness!  I didn't paint underneath it so some of the wood color seeps out here and there.  Awesome!  Self distressing! ;)

I used mini stars for the top and bottom clusters and washi tape.  I just left these stars in the natural state.  There is one side that is darker than the other so I used to dark and one light side up.

Here's the bottom stars.  The heart is from 7 Gypsies and I felt compelled to doodle on it.  :)

Now let me tell you about this compass.  It's paper that looks like metal!  I took a piece of kraft paper and embossed it with the Tim Holtz folder.  Then I used black soot distress paint and dabbed in places.  Then I used tarnished brass (goldish color) distress paint and painted over all of it.  Then I went back and dabbed black soot paint in places and worked it in with my finger.  

Here's my title:  Arrr (cubed LOL)  Also, I used so Tim Holtz stamps in the background.  Som of the papers are from DCWV, Prima, and Crate.  The red trim on the top and bottom is from a Fiskars punch.  I love that notebook paper look.
