In the Air

Hello Everybody!

What's in the air?  Love is in the air with this card I made for The Alley Way Stamps Be Inspired Challenge #21.

Here is my card:

I used a freebie from The Alley Way Stamps.  It had steam but I cut off the steam and put little punched out hearts instead.  The sentiment is from the Love is in the Air stamp set from The Alley Way Stamps.

I like the little coffee cup from the picture and thankfully they had one at TAWS!  And the hearts made this easy to be a Valentine's Day card! :)

Cupid Card

Hello Everybody!

I am working on my Valentine's Day cards so get ready to see lots of red and pink...and grey?

Here is my card.  I am entering it in the Cut It Up Challenge #11: Love is in the Air.  The cupid is a Sizzix Die Cut from Tim Holtz.  I use grunge paper to cut him out (with my cuttlebug) and painted him with Close to my Heart Pearl paint mixed with tulip re-inker.  Then I painted him with Rock Candy Crackle.  So cooool. :)

The love is embossed from a Cuttlebug word folder and I cut out love and sanded it.  I used a TH distress Coredinations paper so it's red on the outside and pink on the inside.  In this case-too pink.  I used some distress walnut ink and then it was too dark.  So then I put a little white paint on it and rubbed it in with my finger.  The musical notes are washi papers from Reflections and I kind of bunched them up on each side.

Oh and the background?  The technique is in Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities I.  It's called Rusted Enamel and it's on page 41.  I don't want to say how to do it for respect to Mr. Holtz.  (His blog might have it: www.timholtz.com).

I will say there is embossing powder involved.  I took this picutre with the flash on by accident.  You can see the texture in the background.

Boy Scouts Merit Badge Challenge

Hello Everybody!

This week's challenge at For Fun Challenges is Boy Scouts because February 8th is Boy Scout Day.  Now I will be honest-I don't know that much about boy or girl scouts (I wasn't a girl scout as a kid).  But after looking at this site here I am in awe of what Boy Scouts need to learn to earn badges.  Take a look (especially if you aren't familiar with the program like me).  Wow!  All different areas of expertise!

So for my project I made 3 ATC's.  The merit badges I covered are: hiking, nuclear science, and robotics.

Here are close ups of each card:

For the background on this ATC I used Dylusion Sprays and stickers.  Below is a close up of the park map sticker.  After I made this I realized that there was a separate badge for backpacking.  So I was more careful with the next two! ;)

This ATC background comes for a chemistry book page (195 to be exact) ;)  A while back I picked up a chemistry book for free.  And now I was able to use it!  Yay!  I adhered the piece of the text book page to the ATC base and I used red and yellow distress inks around the edges.  Nuclear is from the book also and the letters are Authentique.  The black circles at the bottom are Prima rub-ons.

And this is the Robotics ATC card.  Here I used Tim Holtz gears from the Sizzix die and the robot and sentiment are from The Alley Way Stamps.  I used silver embossing powder on the robot and perfect pearls.

I put some perfect pearls on the sentiment too.

Hello Everybody!

I am so excited to share with you the month's technique at Technique Time Tuesday!  This month's technique is to use embossing powder to embed a stamp image-and this technique is so cool.  I think melting embossing paper is magical already but to add the stamp in a different color embossing powder-is just wow!  It all looks like one element.

So here's my card.  The Eiffel tower is the embedded image.  I first took a square of white cardstock and stamped a script background stamp in walnut stain distress ink.  Then I covered it in clear embossing powder a couple of times.  I used Wow embossing powder which is thicker than other brands.  Then I stamped the Eiffel Tower on the square (using versamark) and covered it with black embossing powder.  You can't feel the Eiffel Tower.  How cool is that!  So with a brown Staz On ink I stamped the hot air balloon.  I rubbed some alcohol inks on the embossed square (since it's now non-pourous right!)

I stamped the sentiment on a beige card stock using walnut distress ink (Tim H.) and used other distress inks to color the background.  Then I used some more of the clear embossing powder for it.  One note though-although it's clear the embossing powder does seem to make the ink darker.

C is for Cage

Hello Everybody!

I made this ATC for the Alphabet challenge going on at The Craft Barn.  The letter is C for this challenge.  I used the word cage.  I built a little cage on my ATC card using jewerly wire.  At the top I tied some ribbons and a little twine.  I also used a Tim Holtz bird charm and colored it with alcohol inks.  The bird can actually "fly" when you move the card back and forth :)

Here is a straight on view.  The background is inked with TH Distress Inks and I did a white embossing resist with the swirly stamp.

Here is a side view.  I was trying to capture the 3-D effect of the cage.  (good thing this isn't a photo contest) ;)
